Telecaster , Stratocasterの要素を併せ持った新しいモデルとして開発され、1979年にデビューしたフェンダー「リード」シリーズ。
こちらは2シングルコイル・ピックアップ仕様の「リードII」、1980年製個体です。

実は、'60年代中古より採用されていた"ラージヘッド"から"スモールヘッド"へ回帰した最初のモデルで、コンパクトなボディサイズながら、25.5"ロングスケールネックを備えたユニークなギターです。

ラウンド貼りのローズウッド指板、スリムなCシェイプのネックです。
グリップ部分のウレタン塗装が剥がされており、指板エッジに若干残りがございます。

ボディ材はこの時期ならではのアッシュを使用し、やや重量感のある硬質な鳴り方が特長です。

2つのシングルコイル・ピックアップは、当時としてややパワフルに設計された"X-1"をマウントし、ブライトな音色を出力します。
ピックアップセレクターに加えフェイズスイッチが搭載され、Mustangのような軽やかなアウトフェイズ・サウンドも選択することができます。

本来であればハードテイル(ノントレモロ)仕様ですが、こちらの個体はStratocaster用のシンクロナイズド・トレモロユニットへコンバージョンされています(当時の国内代理店にて新品時に加工されていた時期もあったようです)。
※日本製のトレモロユニットを搭載。現状はやや建て付けが甘く、スムーズなトレモロ・アクションをご希望の方は、ねじ穴の補修やキャビティの加工追加をおすすめいたします。

塗装の傷みが多く見受けられ、ペグボタンの歪みやサビなど、年代相応の使用感がございます。
フレットはやや摩耗は見受けられ6割程度の残り、トラスロッドのアクションは良好です。

ハムバッキングピックアップのLead I , Lead IIIに比べ、よりフェンダーらしい明るい音色が特徴の逸品です。

The Fender "Lead" series, which debuted in 1979, was developed as a new model combining elements of the Telecaster and Stratocaster.

This is a 1980 "Lead II" with two single-coil pickups.

In fact, it was the first model to revert to the "small headstock" design, a departure from the "large headstock" used in the 1960s. Despite its compact body size, it's a unique guitar featuring a 25.5" long-scale neck.

This guitar features a round-laminated rosewood fingerboard and a slim C-shaped neck.

The urethane finish on the grip area has peeled off, leaving some residue on the fingerboard edge.

The body is made of ash, a wood typical of this period, and is characterized by its slightly heavy, hard-sounding tone.

The two single-coil pickups are "X-1" pickups, which were designed to be somewhat powerful for their time, producing a bright tone.

In addition to the pickup selector, a phase switch is included, allowing you to select a light, out-of-phase sound similar to that of a Mustang.

Originally a hardtail (non-tremolo) model, this particular guitar has been converted to a Stratocaster-style synchronized tremolo unit (it seems that this modification was sometimes done by the domestic distributor when the guitar was new).

*Equipped with a Japanese-made tremolo unit. Currently, the fit is slightly loose, and for those who desire smoother tremolo action, we recommend repairing the screw holes or adding further cavity modifications.

The paintwork shows considerable wear, and there are signs of age-appropriate use, such as warped and rusted tuning pegs.

The frets show some wear, with about 60% remaining, and the truss rod has good action.

Compared to the humbucking pickup models Lead I and Lead III, this guitar features a brighter, more Fender-like tone.
