今やヘッドレスギターブランドの代表格としても挙げられる程と成ったStrandberg。
現在では様々なバリエーションモデル、シェイプも展開されておりますが今回入荷致しました品は本家スウェーデンのカスタムショップ部門にて製作されていた最高峰モデルVarberg。
こちらは6弦仕様のモデルと成ります。
Bodenモデルとはまた違う全体的に丸みを持った柔らかな印象を与えるシェイプを持ち、3層の複雑なボディ構造からの組み合わせも他のモデルとは一線を画す品です。
ルックス面はクッキリと浮き出たトップ材のフィギュアードメイプルの杢目や各層の木材の色合いや質感を引き立てるナチュラルカラーが造形美、機能美、独創的なシェイプをまるでアート作品の様な佇まいに感じさせてくれる品です。

ネックシェイプはStrandbergの特徴でもあるEndurネックを採用。
カットが施された独自のネックシェイプはガイドラインの様に各ポジションでもストレスの少ない握り心地を感じさせ、支持されている滑らかな演奏性が楽しめます。
またきめ細かいサテン塗装によって仕上げられたネックバックは長時間の演奏や素早いポジション移動の際もスムーズに行える点も魅力です。
指板面は22-24"Rへと徐々に変化して行くコンパウンドラディアス指板を採用し、フレットもステンレスのジャンボサイズを採用しているのでテクニカルなフレーズも弾きやすい、良質な演奏性を有しております。

木材構造はフレイムメイプルトップ、チェンバード加工が施させれたアルダーコア、マホガニーバックのボディにメイプルとカーボンファイバーを合わせたネック、エボニー指板からの組み合わせを採用。
重量も2.21kgと軽く、Bodenと比べ柔らかさを感じさせる音色は中低域のまとまりも良く、伸びやかな高域が印象的な組み合わせです。

ピックアップにはDiMarzio ST-2 Customへそれぞれ換装。
ESPの別注モデルと成っており、高出力を活かしたハリのあるサウンドが楽しめ、クリーントーンでは細かなニュアンスやフレーズの再現性も良好です。
またボリュームやトーンコントロールによってその広いレンジを活かす事で様々な表情を見せてくれる汎用性の高さも感じられます。
ドライヴ時にはより厚みを増したパワフルなサウンドを出力し、深い歪みの中でも輪郭が崩れづらい印象を受ける音色がヘヴィなジャンルを始め幅広くお使い頂けます。

コンディションは経年や使用に伴うスリキズや打痕、パーツ類のくすみやサビ、メッキ剥げ、一部塗装にひびや欠け、艶が見受けられますがフレットの減りも少なく、トラスロッドの効きも良好な即戦力としてこれからもお使い頂けるコンディション。

市場でも現在では中々見かける事も少なくなり、新たに発表された国産のVarbergと違う本家スウェーデン製の個体。

Strandberg has now become one of the leading headless guitar brands.
While various variation models and shapes are currently available, the item we've received this time is the Varberg, the top-tier model crafted by the Swedish custom shop division. This is a 6-string model. It features a shape with an overall rounded, softer impression distinct from the Boden model, and its combination of a complex three-layer body construction sets it apart from other models.

Visually, the sharply defined figure of the figured maple top, along with the natural color and texture of each wood layer, creates a natural finish that enhances the sculptural beauty, functional elegance, and unique shape, giving it the presence of an art piece.

The neck shape employs Strandberg's signature Endur neck. Its uniquely cut profile provides a stress-free grip at every position, like a natural guide, delivering the smooth playability for which it is renowned.
The neck back, finished with a fine satin coating, also ensures smooth playability during extended sessions and rapid position changes.
The compound radius fingerboard gradually changes from 22“ to 24” radius, paired with jumbo stainless steel frets, delivering excellent playability that makes technical phrases easy to execute.

The wood construction combines a flamed maple top, a chambered alder core, and a mahogany back body with a neck made from maple and carbon fiber, topped with an ebony fingerboard. Weighing a light 2.21kg, its tone feels softer compared to Boden models, featuring well-defined mid-low frequencies and impressively extended highs.

Each pickup has been upgraded to a DiMarzio ST-2 Custom. As a custom-order ESP model, it delivers a crisp, powerful sound leveraging its high output. Clean tones exhibit excellent nuance and phrase reproduction.
Its versatility shines through the wide range achievable with the volume and tone controls, allowing for diverse tonal expressions.
When driven, it produces a thicker, more powerful sound. Even within deep distortion, the tone retains its contour well, making it suitable for heavy genres and a wide range of styles.

Condition shows signs of age and use: surface scratches, dents, tarnish/rust on parts, plating wear, some paint cracks/chips, and loss of gloss. However, fret wear is minimal, the truss rod functions well, and it remains in playable condition.

Now increasingly rare on the market, this is the genuine Swedish-made model, distinct from the newly announced domestic Varberg.
Highly recommended for those specifically seeking this model or looking for a high-spec headless guitar.
